What is WMU?

The heart of WMU is missions. WMU provides avenues of missions awareness and involvement for all ages in the church.

Missions is the work of God through the church by which the gospel of Jesus Christ is extended in word and deed to all people in the world.

WMU challenges Christian believers to understand and be radically involved in the mission of God.

Our Women on Mission meet the first Sunday of each month at 5:00 p.m.

Our Areas of Mission Focus:

North American Missions: 3 out of 4 people in North America do not know Christ as Lord and Savior. This is an important, urgent need!  We support missionaries throughout North America as they strive to reach each person for the cause of Christ. 100% of the monies given to the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering is used for missionary salaries, benefits, and their ministry.

Golden State Missions: In Tennessee, one out of every two people is unchurched. The Golden Offering for Tennessee Missions is an annual offering that supports missions and ministries of the Tennessee Baptist Convention.

Foreign Missions: We join other Southern Baptist churches in collecting the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering for the sole purpose of supporting international missions. Every penny of the offering goes to the International Mission Board’s overseas budget, thus supporting our missionaries and their work.

Operation Christmas Child brings joy and hope to children in desperate situations around the world through gift-filled shoe boxes and the Good News of God’s love. This program of Samaritan’s Purse provides an opportunity for people of all ages to be involved in a simple, hands-on missions project while focusing on the true meaning of Christmas—Jesus Christ.

We have a very active group of Senior Adults at First Baptist that we call the YY's (Yesterday's Youth). .  We meet the first Tuesday of each month at 10:00 a.m. for brunch followed by a guest speaker that is revenant to our needs.  Weekly, we minister to eight local nursing home facilities.  While our choir sings, others help the residents and spread the love of God to each one. Throughout the year we have fun-filled activities and trips.  Below are just some of the plans for 2011.

February 19 - Senior Adult Ladies' Valentine Banquet at 5:00 in our Fellowship Hall.
