Pursuing God?

Is There a God?

Yes, and He came to earth in human form in the person of Jesus Christ. The Bible says in John chapter 16, verse 28: “I came from the Father and entered the world.” This is why we celebrate Christmas.

Does God love me?

Yes! Look what He did to show that love: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.” (John 3:16-17).

How should I respond to Jesus?

It’s not enough to intellectually agree with Jesus’ claims. If you read the Bible and recognize Jesus as the true Son of God, a man who walked the earth, lived a perfect life, died, and rose again from the dead (this is why we celebrate Easter), you must choose to cross the line of faith and receive Him. You have to start by inviting Him into your life and accepting that He paid the debt you owe for your sin but could never pay yourself. Salvation in Jesus is a totally free gift, and receiving it is as easy as saying, “Jesus, I acknowledge my sin and Your payment for it on the cross. I ask you to be my forgiver and my Lord.”

Will God forgive someone like me?

Of course! You need to know that God will take you as you are, but He doesn’t want to leave you as you are. He wants you to let Him make you into what He wants you to be.

Some Practical Helps

Keeping in mind the previous questions, here are some practical ideas to help you in your spiritual search:

  1. Read the Bible – start with the New Testament book of John.
  2. Talk to people who display a genuine relationship with God – those who live by a different set of principles.
  3. Stay open to actually finding what you’re looking for; fear of commitment and change can keep you from finding the truth.
  4. Attend a Bible-believing church, such as First Baptist Church, and hear first-hand the claims of Jesus.

Ask God to reveal Himself to you.

What Is Salvation?

Through faith in Jesus Christ, one can be saved from the eternal consequences of sin and receive eternal life with God in heaven. It is the cornerstone of the Christian faith and is available to anyone who accepts Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. Salvation is as easy as believing in your heart that Jesus died for your sin and wants to live in your heart. If you'd like to be saved, pray the prayer below:

"Dear God, I confess that I am a sinner and that I need your forgiveness. I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, that He died on the cross for my sins, and that He rose from the dead on the third day. I ask you to forgive me of my sins and to come into my life as my Lord and Savior. I give my life to you, and I ask for your guidance and strength to live for you from this day forward. Thank you for your love and mercy. In Jesus' name, Amen"
